Decorating our Reading Bags
Students were all given Reading Bags to keep their reading supplies in. They were very plain bags, so we decided to decorate them with student names and drawings about reading and literature! Here are some first graders and their bags in progress...

Fauvist Landscapes by Grade 2
We read the book When Pigasso Met Mootisse by Nina Laden to introduce this lesson. Second graders learned that Henri Matisse was a member of the Fauves, or Wild Beasts, because of the wild and unusual colors that he used. They created these landscapes using glue outlines, and chalk pastel in the style of the Fauves.
Value Hand Drawings by Grade 4
Fourth graders learned about using value to create an illusion. In these drawings, the idea is to have the hand look like it is coming out of the paper. It was a difficult challenge, but I think the fourth graders did an excellent job!
