Tissue Boxes Wanted!

Center School parents, did you see the great tissue box monsters created by our kindergartners?  The art room is collecting more tissue boxes so we can do this project again next year, as well as even more interesting art ideas.  Please drop off your empty tissue boxes at the school; collection boxes are in the office and outside the art room.  Thank you!!!!

Tissue Box Monsters by Kindergarten

We read Go Away, Big Green Monster by Ed Emberley, and then kindergartners got to work cutting and gluing and creating their own monsters using tissue boxes and lots of colored paper.

Pinch-Pot Monsters by Grade 3

Third graders used the knowledge they gained last year about making clay pinch pots, as a jumping-off point for these adorable creatures.  After they were fired in the kiln, they were painted using tempera.

Fancy Coil Pots by Grade 5

After learning the basics of ceramic coil pots in third grade, fifth graders really stepped up to the challenge with these super-advanced coil pots.  I think they came out AMAZING!

Wire-Sculpture Fish by Grade 4

To inspire this project, we viewed a Google presentation about the wire sculptures of Alexander Calder.  Students drafted a sketch and then created their sketched fish out of wires of different thickness and color, buttons, and a variety of beads.

Ceramic Leaf Bowls by Grade 4

Fourth graders rolled a slab of clay, and then rolled a real leaf onto their slab to get the imprints of all the leaf details.  They carefully cut out their leaf shape, and then placed them in a styrofoam bowl to dry.  After being fired in the kiln, the bowls were painted using colorful glazes.  Everyone LOVES the display in the front of the school!

Grade 1 Pattern Necklaces

First graders sculpted shape- beads out self-drying clay, and once dry, painted them with watercolors.  To construct their necklaces, they first made a sketch showing their pattern, and then they followed the pattern to string their beads.
